EARTH SCIENCES GROUP
We interpret Earth Sciences very widely. It is anything connected with the Earth, so can include Natural History, Ecology, Planetary Science, as well as the usual stuff like Geology, Climatology and what we used to call Geography when we went to school all those years ago. We also cover some of the basic physics, chemistry and biology needed for these topics.
We like to wander round our subject, and wander round the landscape! Our outdoor trips have included nature reserves at Dolydd Hafren (bird-watching on River Severn) and Roundton Hill (plants growing on thin soils). We've also visited geological sites at Llanymynech Rocks (limestone) and Stiperstones (sedimentary quartzite).
NEWS On 12 February 2009, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, 24 of us had a fabulous trip to Martin Mere in Lancashire, one of the reserves of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust. We were given a talk and a bit of a guided tour by one of the Volunteers to start with and a treat watching the Whooper Swans being fed at the end. You can see a few pictures from a great day out by clicking here.
